Baldwin, MI

The Michigan Outdoor Writers Association (MOWA), in partnership with Enbridge, has selected Ducks Unlimited (DU) as the recipient of the 2026 MOWA Clean Waterways Award.
The award was presented at MOWA’s annual conference in Baldwin, MI to DU’s Michigan Major Donor Chairman Craig Lesley by MOWA member Tom Huggler. The award was given in recognition of DU’s completion of three restoration projects at Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge that connected nearly 3,000 acres of wetlands to four major river systems and restored a former golf course pond to wetland habitat.
“For 90 years, DU has accomplished much more than to help increase North American waterfowl populations. Habitat improvements throughout Michigan and beyond have proven beneficial to people, too”, said Huggler, adding “Restoring a duck marsh also mitigates flooding problems, provides clean water, and traps sediments and toxins that are otherwise harmful. With more than 30,000 Michigan members, Ducks Unlimited is one of those legacy conservation organizations that many people take for granted. Acknowledging DU with MOWA’s Clean Waterways Award was an honor long overdue.”
